Indigenous Peoples' Day

Starting in 2016, Vermont recognizes the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which coincides with the federal holiday of Columbus Day. “The General Assembly recognizes and values the historic, cultural and contemporary significance of the Indigenous peoples of the lands that later became known as the Americas, which includes Vermont. Vermont was founded and built upon lands first inhabited by the Abenaki people, their ancestors and allies, and honors these members of the public, both past and present.”

A federal holiday, Columbus Day, the town office is closed.
