The following was posted to the Cavendish VT Facebook page on Thursday, Oct. 2 by April Swasey: Is anyone missing a Cat? This little sweet girl has been hanging around our house on Main ST. in Cavendish for a few weeks now. She just started to come around us in the last week she is the sweetest cat very friendly and loves kids someone has to be missing the cat. We have been caring for her feeding her but it is starting to get very cold out... She is Black with white on her belly she looks to be young maybe a year or two. Please share and ask around we really want to reunite her with her family.

CTES and NECAP Test Results

George Thomson, Principal of the Cavendish Town Elementary School has submitted the following information about the recent NECAP test results.

I am sure many people read the article on the front page of last Friday’s Rutland Herald announcing the results of the Science NECAP (New England Comprehensive Assessment Program) tests administered last spring to students in grades 4, 8 and 11. The state average on the assessment in science for students in grade 4 has dropped to 44%.  Several folks inquired about the performance of CTES students so I thought I would take an opportunity through Cavendish Connects to share with others who might be interested.

I am pleased to report that we had 71% of our 4th graders either proficient or exceeding the standard on the NECAP. Although this is only one measurement of how students are achieving in science at our school, it is encouraging. It is important to recognize that some children to not perform well on tests and a more comprehensive view of proficiency would include formative assessments, classroom assessments and daily performance.

If anyone from the community would like to discuss the results, please feel free to contact me. Thomson can be reached at 802-226-7758
