Cavendish, Vermont uses a combination of “town meeting” and Australian balloting to decide budgets, policies and elected officials. Town meeting usually takes place on the Monday before the first Tuesday in March. The location is the Cavendish Town Elementary School’s multi purpose room. Meetings begin at 7 pm.
A town report issued at least two weeks prior to the meeting, outlines items to be voted on at Town Meeting or election day, which is the first Tuesday in March. Polling takes place at the Cavendish School from 10a.m.-7p.m..
Currently, the school budgets for Cavendish Elementary, Green Mountain Union High School and the Riverside Technical School are all voted on by Australian ballot on Tuesday, along with elected positions, bond notices and other items. The town budget is voted on at the Town Meeting on Monday night.
